Lazio president Claudio Lotito has said that he has an unnamed alternative to Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood. The Serie A side is linked with the Englishman but has reached an impasse on the transfer fee with United

The Carrington graduate was one of the most exciting prospects before off-field issues played spoilsport. He has scored 35 goals and assisted 12 in 129 games across competitions.

The Englishman recently returned after a fine loan spell with Getafe in Spain, where he bagged 10 goals and six assists in 36 games across competitions. His performances have seen Lazio intensify their efforts to sign him, with their president saying (via Metro):

"Last year, we were 20 minutes late due to a mismatch between the markets in Italy and England, and so he fell through. I had signed Greenwood last year, but you didn’t even know who he was."
"He fell through due to a mismatch of an hour between the two markets, and the facts proved me right because he then did well."

Lotitio concluded:

"But it’s not just Greenwood. There are also other players that you don’t even know. If I told you a name, which I won’t tell you because I want to keep you curious, that is worth 10 times more than Greenwood."

It remains to be seen where the 22-year-old would end up this summer, but Manchester United look increasingly likely to move him on in the coming weeks.

Former Crystal Palace chairman has say on Manchester United's Mason Greenwood

Former Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan has commented on the transfer speculation surrounding Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood this summer.

The Englishman is a transfer target for Olympique Marseille and Lazio, but the Red Devils are reportedly holding out for a fee close to the £40 million mark. Speaking on talkSPORT about the future of the forward, Jordan said:

“As the player that we saw before all of his conduct superseded his football ability, he’s worth £40 million,”
“He is a brilliant player who had such great opportunities. Unfortunately, because of his behaviour, he’s put himself in a situation where he’s a little bit of a problem. But he will go on and play in other leagues. And United will get a decent fee for him because he is worth it.”

Manchester United will hope to get a good deal for the forward in the coming weeks and a saga that has gone on for nearly hree years.
