Liverpool fans are voicing their displeasure on X after Elon Musk's father, Errol, claimed that his son would be keen on purchasing the club. The Merseysiders are owned by Fenway Sports Group (FSG) after being purchased for a reported £300 million in 2010.

Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, was reported to be interested in purchasing the club to allegedly expand his political power in the UK (via British newspaper Weekend Sport).

These rumors recently escalated after his father Errol appeared on Times Radio via talkSPORT, where he was questioned if the rumors were true. He replied (via DaveOCKOP on X):

“I can't comment on that, they'll raise the price. Oh yes, [he has expressed a desire], but that doesn't mean he's buying it."

When questioned further, he responded:

“He would like to yes, obviously. Anybody would want to - so would I! His grandmother was born in Liverpool, and we have relatives in Liverpool and we were fortunate to know quite a lot of the Beatles because they grew up with some of my family. So, we are attached to Liverpool you know..."

The Reds are currently valued at around £4 billion. Elon Musk is the world's richest person with a reported net worth of $421.2 billion, which could theoretically make it a simple acquisition for the 53-year-old.

However, a section of fans have already united against Musk as one posted:

"He'd change the stadium name, club name and everything he could. This would be the worst thing to happen to us."

Another fan tweeted:

"If rather fsg than elon"

Other fans reacted below:

"Don't let this happen or he's gonna change the club name to XFC," one fan warned
"I can’t even begin to imagine if this were to happen," another added
"Anyone backing this isn't a proper Liverpool supporter," one fan insisted
"Not to him, not even if it meant winning everything from now until the heat death of the universe," another posted

When will Liverpool next be back in action?

Liverpool's title aspirations were dealt a slight blow after they recently suffered a disappointing 2-2 draw against Manchester United at Anfield over the weekend (January 5). They will be aiming to return to winning ways against Tottenham Hotspur in the first leg of the EFL Cup semi-finals on Wednesday, January 8.

The Reds will seek to get one step closer to Wembley to retain the EFL Cup. They already defeated Tottenham 6-3 in the Premier League in a thrilling contest earlier this season. In addition, Spurs are in a poor run of form, having lost three out of their last five league games.

However, the Merseysiders could be without midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai. During the pre-match press conference, Arne Slot confirmed that the Hungarian is yet to feature in team training due to illness. It also caused him to miss their draw against Manchester United.
