Former Chelsea winger Pat Nevin has backed Liverpool's Mohamed Salah to make an impact against Arsenal on Sunday, October 27. The two sides will face off at the Emirates Stadium in the Premier League.
The Reds have had a stellar start to the season under Arne Slot, winning 11 of their 12 games across competitions. They sit atop the Premier League standings with 21 points in eight games, four points above third-placed Arsenal. The two sides will now face off at the Emirates on Sunday as Liverpool look to extend their lead.
Pat Nevin has backed Salah to be the difference maker for his side, as he said on BBC Radio 5 Live (via TBR Football):
“Liverpool will have to play better than they did at Leipzig. To play Arsenal, at their ground, they’re very tough, so Liverpool will have to step up from Leipzig, but I think they know that. When Liverpool got a bit of a fright after about 25 minutes, suddenly bang, they went up through the gears.
“That’s another thing about good sides, they still have gears to go through, and know when they have to go through them. Players like Mohamed Salah, they know that, if they go all in, all of the time, they won’t last the season. You didn’t the best of Salah at Leipzig, I suspect you might see the best of him against Arsenal, and he’s not the only one you can say that about.
“Liverpool are improving and will improve more, but their biggest test of the season [so far] will be Sunday.”
Salah has scored seven goals and provided seven assists in 12 games across competitions. He also provided an assist in the Merseysiders' 1-0 win over RB Leipzig away in the UEFA Champions League on October 23.
A look at Liverpool and Arsenal's form ahead of their upcoming clash
The Reds have had an excellent start to the season except for one dent. They lost 1-0 against Nottingham Forest at Anfield in the Premier League on September 14. They have won their six games since then across competitions.
The Merseysiders beat Chelsea 2-1 at Anfield in their last Premier League game on October 20. They then beat RB Leipzig 1-0 at the Red Bull Arena in the UEFA Champions League league stage. They sit second in the UCL standings, just behind Aston Villa on goal difference.
Meanwhile, Arsenal have also lost just one of their 12 games across competitions this season but have played out three draws. They lost 2-0 against Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium in their last Premier League game, where William Saliba was sent off.
The Gunners then beat Shakhtar Donetsk 1-0 at the Emirates in the UEFA Champions League on October 22. They sit ninth in the UCL standings.
