Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has said that he regrets letting Jesus Navas leave. The tactician sent a warm message to Navas after the Spaniard announced his retirement.

Guardiola and Navas didn't spend too much time together, with the versatile wideman playing just 1798 minutes across 36 games under Guardiola. However, the six time-Premier League winning manager spoke fondly of his former charge (saying as per The Mirror):

"Thank you for the gift of having spent a year together. You don't know how much I regret letting you go. I would have loved for you to stay longer here, but sometimes you make mistakes.
"Congratulations to all Sevillistas for having had such an extraordinary player and a person who defines Sevillismo. For many years to come, Sevillistas, don't let him slip away. Keep him close and with all of you. Farewell."

Navas won three trophies with City during his tenure - one Premier League title and two EFL Cups. However, all these triumphs were under Manuel Pellegrini and not Guardiola.

"We are far away from winning the Premier League" - Pep Guardiola rules Manchester City out of title race

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has ruled his side out of Premier League contention this season. The English giants have been a dominant force over the last decade and won the last four league titles.

The Sky Blues, though, have been in poor recent form, winning only once in 13 games across competitions before beating Leicester City 2-0 at the weekend. Guardiola told BBC's Match Of The Day:

"We are far away from winning the Premier League. We accept there's already no chance of that, but we have other things to fight for: FA Cup, top four ... and winning games helps."

Manchester City, the reigning Premier League champions, are in sixth position in the table with 31 points from 19 games and are 14 points behind Liverpool at the top of the table. However, they alive in both the FA Cup and UEFA Champions League and could still end their season with silverware.
