Former Manchester United midfielder turned TV pundit Roy Keane has delivered his verdict on the title race after Liverpool's 2-0 win against Manchester City on Sunday, December 1. The Reds have enjoyed a phenomenal start to life under Arne Slot and their season is only getting better and better.

Many expected Liverpool to undergo a transition season following a managerial change at Anfield in the summer. Slot was brought in to fill in the massive shoes of Jurgen Klopp after the German tactician decided to step down at the end of last season.

Even the biggest fan might not have expected the Merseyside giants to do so well under their new manager. On top of that, Slot did not particularly manage to add more quality and depth to the squad he inherited in the summer.

After 13 Premier League games, the Reds are now nine points clear at the top of the table, and 11 points ahead of Pep Guardiola's side.

After their statement win against Manchester City, most pundits are backing Liverpool for the title. Jamie Carragher claimed the week will be huge for his former club as they travel to Newcastle United on Wednesday, December 4, and Everton on Saturday, December 7.

Carragher was quoted as saying by Sports View:

“Whenever there is a week of three Premier League games, a lot can change. When I look at this week, I looked at Newcastle away Wednesday night and then play Everton away 12.30. That’s a quick turner. If Liverpool could come through that with four or six points, they’re in a great position.”

Roy Keane also claimed that Arne Slot's team look unstoppable at the moment but insisted the season is still young. The Manchester United legend said:

“You don’t get any league medal in December. This team will take some stopping.”

Arne Slot has registered 18 wins, one draw, and one defeat in his 20 games (across competitions) in charge of Liverpool. The Reds also lead the Champions League table and are the only club boasting a 100 percent record in the European competition.

Jamie Carragher lauds Liverpool star following their win against Manchester City

Liverpool great Jamie Carragher has hailed Virgil van Dijk as the best centre-back ever to grace the Premier League. The Dutchman was exceptional for Arne Slot's side against Manchester City.

Van Dijk made three interceptions, one recovery, two blocks, and seven clearances against Pep Guardiola's side while maintaining 93 percent passing accuracy. The defender also came close to scoring on three occasions.

Following the game, Jamie Carragher waxed lyrical about the Netherlands skipper and insisted he makes defending look easy. The pundit wrote on X:

"VVD performance today was unbelievable! (I know he made a mistake at the end!) He made Erling Haaland look like Alf-Inge Haaland! The best striker v best CB should be a great battle, but it's so easy for him."
"He's the best CB we've ever seen in the PL, I know the replies will scream Liverpool bias!!!! Or compare trophies to others but that's all nonsense. I always said it was John Terry before VVD came along & he played for one of my biggest rivals in Chelsea!! Trophies depend on your team or money or timing," Carragher added.

The former England international, who made 737 appearances for the Merseyside giants, added:

"All great defenders of the past had attackers who caused them problems, but who ever causes VVD any?? He's just played against [Kylian] Mbappe & Haaland in the last four days & played them with such ease he could've played with a cigar!!!! Please stop this silly debate about the best CB, it's not even close."

Virgil van Dijk has played an instrumental role in Liverpool's success since his reported £75 million move from Southampton in January 2018. He has made 288 appearances for the Reds, helping them win eight trophies.
