Former Real Madrid player Hamit Altintop opened up about his interaction with Portugal legends Cristiano Ronaldo and Pepe. The trio met ahead of Selecao's EURO 2024 game against Turkey, where Ronaldo got an assist and Pepe kept a clean sheet.
Notably, they all played together at Real Madrid over a decade ago and were all smiles when they spoke at Signal Iduna Park. Afterwards, Altintop, who once played for Turkey, revealed the conversation, saying (via Record):
"We talked about the times we played together. And I said to them: 'Many years ago, but you still play!' And, of course, I wished them good luck for the future. I am very grateful to have played with these two incredible people. They are humble and adorable. I really like them."
The two Los Blancos legends helped Portugal beat Turkey 3-0. Bernardo Silva opened the scoring for Selecao in the 21st minute before a howler of an own goal from Samet Akaydin put them 2-0 up in the 28th. Bruno Fernandes was teed up by Cristiano Ronaldo to complete the mission for goal number three.
Real Madrid new signing reveals Cristiano Ronaldo inspiration
New Real Madrid signing Endrick has revealed why Cristiano Ronaldo inspires him. The youngster is about to join Los Blancos, a move he will make from Brazil when he turns 18 this summer.
Speaking to TyC Sports about Ronaldo, Endrick said (via GOAL):
“[He is] an example of a player that combines the best of everything."
Asked if he would be able to succeed at Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, Endrick added:
"What I did in Brazil is close to what they are going to demand of me there. I looked at many Real Madrid matches and also analyses.”
Endrick has already made six senior caps for Brazil at the age of 17, averaging a goal every two games. This led to comparisons to Pele, to which he responded:
“For me, it’s an honour, although I’m just starting my story. I have no need to complain about it.”
Endrick will hope to emulate Cristiano Ronaldo's career in the Spanish capital. The legendary Portuguese striker made a name for himself globally, winning four Ballon d'Or trophies while at the club. He spent nine years, scoring a record 450 goals for Los Blancos.
