Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham has acknowledged that Liverpool outplayed Los Blancos in their UEFA Champions League game on Wednesday, November 27. The defending champions were humbled 2-0 by the Reds at Anfield.
The first half was intense as both teams tried to break the deadlock, but it ended goalless. In the 52nd minute, Alexis Mac Allister gave Liverpool a much-deserved lead. Kylian Mbappe missed a penalty in the 61st minute that would have leveled the scores. After Mohamed Salah's penalty miss at the other end, Cody Gakpo doubled Liverpool's lead in the 76th minute.
Reacting to the 2-0 loss in a post-match interview, Bellingham said (via Fabrizio Romano):
“Liverpool were just better than us… sometimes you have to hold your hands up.”
“They dominated large spells of the game. The opportunities we had we weren't clinical enough,” he added.
Despite having eight goal attempts during the game, Madrid failed to find the back of the net. Following the defeat to Liverpool, Real Madrid are now 24th in the Champions League standings, having registered six points from five games.
Carlo Ancelotti's men will take on Atalanta in their next Champions League game on December 10.
Real Madrid are interested in signing Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad - Reports
According to Tribuna, Real Madrid are interested in signing Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad. The Spanish champions have also been monitoring Zubimendi's performance and are impressed by his consistent displays in midfield.
Real Madrid's interest in signing Zubimendi could be seen as a move to strengthen the defensive side of their midfield. They might also be looking to avoid a decline in midfield given Luka Modric's potential departure next summer.
In recent times, Zubimendi has proven to be a formidable defensive midfielder. In the LaLiga this season, he has registered 33 tackles and won 70 ground duels. The 25-year-old has also registered three goal contributions in 17 games across competitions.
If the potential deal with Real Madrid becomes a reality, his presence could strengthen the midfield. However, Los Blancos will have to defeat the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool in the race to sign Zubimendi.
The Spaniard is contracted at Sociedad till June 2027, and the presence of several teams could increase his valuation.
