Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has opened up about his contract situation at the club amid recent links with Serie A side AS Roma. The Italian tactician is currently on his second stint with Los Blancos after rejoining in 2021. The first one came between 2013 and 2015.
Carlo Ancelotti's 2024-25 campaign with Real Madrid has begun on a comparatively less successful note. The Merengues are currently second in the LaLiga table with 40 points off 18 games, a point behind table leaders Atletico Madrid. Meanwhile, they have lost three out of their six games in the UEFA Champions League. Los Blancos stand 20th in the table with two remaining games.
Amid Real Madrid's topsy-turvy form, questions have been raised about Carlo Ancelotti's future at the club. As per Fichajes.net, the club has also chosen Xabi Alonso as the Italian tactician's potential replacement next season.
In an interview with Mundo Deportivo, Ancelotti addressed speculation about his future at Real Madrid. He said (via Madrid Universal):
"You never know how long I can stay. Contracts can be terminated but they can also be extended. Coach Roma? I am very happy at Madrid and I want to stay as long as possible."
Ancelotti boasts of coaching three Serie A clubs in his CV, including Juventus (1999-2001), AC Milan (2001-2009), and Napoli (2018-2019).
Meanwhile, Ancelotti has coached Los Blancos twice and led them to 15 titles over both stints, becoming their most successful manager in history. These include three UEFA Champions League titles, two LaLiga titles, and two Copas del Rey among others.
"Our path has not been easy" - Carlo Ancelotti on Real Madrid's UEFA Champions League aspirations
In his aforementioned interview with Mundo Deportivo, Carlo Ancelotti weighed in on Real Madrid's aspirations to win the UEFA Champions League this season. Despite a comparatively poor start, the Italian tactician reminded that the season is far from over.
“In the Champions League, everyone’s aim is to reach the final. So far, our path has not been easy, but there are two games left to qualify and then we’ll see. Liverpool have done well so far, but it’s in March and April that we have to be ready to win,” Ancelotti said.
Real Madrid are the most successful club in the history of the UEFA Champions League, having won the title a record 15 times. Ancelotti has led them to the title three times in 2014, 2022 and 2024. He was in charge when the club won the historic La Decima (10th title) in 2014, becoming the only club to do so.
Los Blancos are also the only club to have won the championship three times in a row twice in 1956, 1957, and 1958, and in 2016, 2017, and 2018. As such, it is too early to write off the Merengues from the Champions League given their history of making comebacks in the competition despite trailing.
