Former top-flight striker Alan McInally has urged Marcus Rashford to stay and sign a new contract at Manchester United. There have been claims that the Englishman is considering his future with the Red Devils.
Rashford appears to have fallen down the pecking order at Manchester United under Ralf Rangnick. Frustrated with the lack of playing time, the forward could choose to leave the club in the summer, according to Fabrizio Romano.
McInally, though, feels Rashford should stay at Old Trafford as his status in the team could change under a new manager next season. The Scot is also of the view that the Red Devils have managed the 24-year-old poorly. He told Footy Accumulators:
"It'd be weird to watch Marcus Rashford playing for anybody else apart from Man United. Everybody knows that I love Marcus Rashford and I've said that Man United expected too much from him when he was younger. I don't think they brought the right recruitment in to help him. When he was 18 and 19, he shouldn't have played 25 games a season in the first-team. He should be playing like two in a row and then missing three because he can't get in the team."
"Because Man United weren't good enough, they had to rely on him so much. All of a sudden, he gets to the age of 24 and people are going 'Get rid of him now, he has been no good'. It looks as though certainly Cavani won't be there and there will be another couple out the door, I don't know about Ronaldo. If I can sit down with him right now, I'd say 'Look, stay where you are. Sign a new contract, you're a Manchester boy. There is no need for you to go anywhere yet. There's a new manager coming in, hopefully some new blood. Things will be different for you next year'."
Paris Saint-Germain have been credited with an interest in Rashford amidst claims he could leave Old Trafford. Arsenal have also been linked with a move for him.
How has Rashford fared for Manchester United this term?
Rashford has been a regular for Manchester United since making his senior debut for them in 2016. However, he has found his playing time at the club limited this season.
The England international has made 24 appearances across all competitions for Manchester United. He has scored five goals and provided two assists in the process.
It is worth noting that Rashford has started just two Premier League matches for Manchester United since the turn of the year.
