“You think he wouldn’t be on a plane tomorrow?” - Pundit asks England to sack Southgate and appoint 77-year-old at Euro 2024

Pundit tells England to sack Southgate and names replacement

Television presenter and pundit Richard Keys has advised England to sack Gareth Southgate before the Round of 16 of Euro 2024. He also named 77-year-old former manager Harry Redknapp as Southgate's potential replacement.

England topped their group in the Euros but have looked far from impressive, having won just one game and drawing two. They secured a 1-0 win over Serbia before drawing 1-1 and 0-0 against Denmark and Slovenia, respectively.

Keys was visibly frustrated with how the Three Lions have fared in the Euros so far. He called for Southgate to be immediately sacked and replaced by former Tottenham Hotspur manager Redknapp.

Keys was quoted as saying by Metro:

"I’m so depressed, I thought that was so miserable once again tonight. I’m at a point whereby if I were able to make that decision, yes, I probably would because we are going nowhere double quick. We’re here to win it, that, what I’ve seen tonight, that’s not winning the next game, let alone the tournament."
"Harry Redknapp’s sat in Dubai tonight, give him a call. [Jurgen] Klopp won’t do it but Harry, you think he wouldn’t be on a plane tomorrow morning?" he added.

England will face one of the best third-placed teams in the Round of 16 and Southgate has plenty to think about. He was booed and had empty beer cups thrown in his direction after his side's drab 0-0 draw against Slovenia on Tuesday, June 25.

Paul Merson slams England skipper Harry Kane for his poor display against Slovenia at Euro 2024

Pundit Paul Merson hit out at England skipper Harry Kane for his below-par showing in the first half against Slovenia. The Three Lions played out a goalless draw with Slovenia in Cologne.

Kane was ineffective for most of the first half and failed to connect to a Kieran Trippier cross. Merson sarcastically labeled Slovenia as 'the best team in Europe' and hit out at the Bayern Munich star for his underwhelming display.

"Brilliant first half and lots of shots on goal against the best team in Europe…. (Is that okay Harry?)" the pundit tweeted.

Kane has scored once in three games in Euro 2024 so far, finding the back of the net in a 1-1 draw against Denmark. He boasts 64 goals and 19 assists in 94 appearances for England.
