Fans have reacted to attacker Arda Guler's absence in Real Madrid's starting XI for the La Liga home clash with Osasuna on Saturday (November 9). Los Blancos have lost their last two games across competitions.
Following a 4-0 home loss to arch-rivals and league leaders Barcelona two weeks ago, Carlo Ancelotti's side slumped to a 3-1 midweek reverse at home to AC Milan in the UEFA Champions League. Ancelotti, though, has kept Endrick and Guler on the bench for the Osasuna clash, infuriating fans.
"Seriously Arda, get the f... out of!!!! You're wasting your career!!!!," one tweeted.
Since arriving at the Santiago Bernabeu last summer from Fenerbahce, Guler, 19, has made 23 appearances across competitions, scoring six times. That includes 11 scoreless outings across competitions this season, starting thrice.
Another chimed in:
"Arda Guler & Endrick deserves some minutes"
There were similar reactions from other fans, with one posting:
"No Guler still"
Another commented:
"This is a day of reckoning for Real Madrid. Arda Guler needs some minutes today."
One fan posted:
"Arda Guler run as fast as you can!"
Los Blancos are second in the La Liga standings, nine points behind Barcelona (33), who have played a game more. Their loss to Barca two weeks ago snapped their 42-game unbeaten streak in the league, one short of the league record set by the Blaugrana set between 2017 and 2018.
Carlo Ancelotti talks about his 'worst mistake' at Real Madrid
Carlo Ancelotti is one of the most decorated tacticians in the game's history, the only one to win league titles in each of Europe's top-five leagues. He registered the accomplishments by leading Los Blancos to La Liga glory in 2022.
The Italian has enjoyed a successful second stint at the club since succeeding Zinedine Zidane in the summer of 2021, delivering multiple league and UEFA Champions League titles.
The 2022 continental triumph made Ancelotti the first manager to win the Champions League multiple times with more than one club. He has won it thrice with Los Blancos (2014, 2022, 2024) and twice with AC Milan (2003, 2007). However, not everything has been rosy for Ancelotti at the Santiago Bernabeu.
"It is impossible to make only good decisions in thirty years," he told France Football (via Metro).
"For example, I had a bad one here in Madrid, after my first year. I was very close to extending my contract. The club wanted to keep me, but I pushed too hard in relation to my salary, and they stopped." ‘It was a mistake, the worst I could have made. But it allowed me to learn.’
The incident pertains to Ancelotti leaving Real Madrid in 2015, a year after delivering the club's much awaited La Decima in the Champions League.
