Nicholas Anelka agrees deal with Shanghai Shenhua

Chelsea outcast striker Nicholas Anelka has apparently agreed terms with Chinese side Shanghai Shenhua over a potential transfer in January. The Chinese Super League outfit were believed to be close to a move for the Frenchman, although both parties have consistently denied that a contract was already agreed. Now it looks certain that Anelka could be plying his trade in January come next year.

“We have agreed on all the contract details and we are only waiting for him to sign it,” club official Ma Yue told Reuters

Anelka has found life hard to come by at Stamford Bridge this season, finding himself down the pecking order in Chelsea’s attacking department. Even though he has frequently maintained his intention of seeing out his career with the Blues, it is understandable for the Frenchman to be in hunger of regular action on the pitch. But a move to China probably surprised many since plenty of top flight clubs were already in the line to secure his signature after his transfer request was accepted by the club recently.

However, it appears that Shanghai Shenhua have placed a very attractive offer on the table, with rumors claiming that a lucrative 3 year deal has already been agreed. The Chinese team are also lining up fellow Frenchman Jean Tigana to be in charge of the club next season.

While the club hasn’t officially announced the move yet, it now appears imminent that Nicholas Anelka would be heading to China in January.
