This is another short thought provoking story from the world we love. A true story that should help us realize how grateful we really are.
The image you see on the left is that of 17 year old, Nico Calabria, who enjoys playing football. I was personally embarrassed at myself for all the times I had complained about not getting a fair shot at playing professional football. This kid did not get a fair shot at life. Period.
He has one leg. He was born that way. But his real life experiences scream of all things normal but that of his existing deformity.
In a recent high school game against Newton South in Concord, Massachusetts, Nico scored a spectacular over the head goal with that one leg of his for Concord-Carlisle Regional High School. Similar to the famed Van Basten goal he scored while he was at Ajax. Watch the video below:
Nico has not stopped at football for those who would like to know more. He is finished 3rd in the Division 2 State Wrestling Championships at the 106-weight class.
Moreover, this kid reached the top of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, which is the highest mountain in Africa. He did it on one leg at the age of 13. Yes, Kilimanjaro at 19,341 ft. He is currently a member of the United States Amputee Soccer team and scored his first goal in national team colors against archrivals Mexico.
He hopes to represent the nation in the Amputee World Cup in the future.
