Nigel de Jong could be on his way back to the Premier League after just two seasons with AC Milan amid interest from Arsenal and newly promoted Queens Park Rangers.
The industrious midfielder is angered by the club’s treatment of his compatriot Clarence Seedorf, after he was sacked as manager at Milan as manager yesterday to be replaced by Flippo Inzaghi.
According to reports in the Sun, De Jong would now be interested in a move away from the San Siro despite twelve months remaining on his current contract. Since news broke of Seedorf’s axing, sources close to the player admit he’s considering his future in Italy.
“I am 29 years old, it will be an important decision. I will have to choose whether to stay here or go somewhere else. I’m at a big club but I just want to know what the plan is for next season,” de Jong said.
The 29-year-old left Manchester City in August 2012 after falling out of favour at the Ethiad but a return to England is now a possibility. QPR manager Harry Redknapp is a known admirer but the lure of Champions League football with Arsenal, although the Loftus Road side could match his wages, is likely to be a weighty pull.
Arsenal are keen to bolster their resources ahead of next season in an attempt to build on their FA Cup triumph in 2013/14, yet in Mikel Arteta, they have a similar type of player to de Jong already in their squad. During his time in England, he won the Premier League, FA Cup and Community Shield.
He has made 45 appearances for Milan since his £3.5 million move but any move will be put on hold until after the World Cup where De Jong will be involved with Netherlands.
