June 6, 2015, the Champions League Final. A big day for European Football. Not only that, it is a big day for football manufacturers as well. Adidas and Nike are debuting their new silos on June 6. Ace 15.1 and X 15.1 from Adidas and Hypervenom Phantom II from Nike. There is a lot of hype regarding the Hypervenom football boots from Nike. Nike claims that these boots are the perfect match for attacking players. Nike unveiled these football boots on May 21, 2015. It certainly has big shoes to fill as it follows the revolutionary Hypervenom Phantom I. Only one thing is unknown, Can they live up to the hype?
Short answer: It certainly has the potential.
The shoe is stunning in every detail. Like all other Nike shoes, this too will turn heads while on the pitch. Wolf Grey/Orange is the launch colorway. The striking pattern on the outsole and the bold iconic swoosh on the outsole and the heel area make this shoe completely unique.
Coming to the technology part, One-piece Nikeskin upper is seen on the boot. Nikeskin improves the ball control and reduces the weight of the football boot. Flyknit knitted material is not present on the entire upper but is placed strategically on the midfoot area. Even with the absence of Flyknit on the entire upper, the Hypervenom II still has unparalleled levels of stability. For the icing on the cake, Nike has introduced Flywire strings as well. This makes room for quick movements with a great lockdown. Nylon chassis of the boot reinforces stability and improves performance on rough surfaces.
The forefoot area of the Hypervenom II is unlike the first generation of Hypervenom Phamtom I. It has good amount of stretch levels. All the wide-footed people, rejoice. The shoe has good ventilation and the whole shoe is very soft. Thereby, making it one of the most comfortable football boots in the market. ACC (All Conditions Control) is also present. It provides unmatched control in both wet and dry conditions. ACC has become an industry standard in the football world. It features the revolutionary Dynamic Fit collar just like the Magista Obra . It provides sock-like feel while providing maximum acceleration. This, like ACC will become a standard in all top tier Nike shoes in the future.
The sole plate of Hypervenom Phantom II features a split-toe design. It is great for agility and control. When compared with the outsole of Nike Hypervenom Phantom I there is little change in the outsole of the next generation boot. Hypervenom Phantom II outsole stayed true to roots of Hypervenom Phantom I which is not a bad thing as the Hypervenom I outsole was one of the best. The traction plate outsole offers outstanding levels of control and stability while the conical studs improve rotational agility.
Nike will also release lower tier versions of the Nike Hypervenom II football cleat. Hypervenom Phinish II and Phatal II. Phinish II does not feature the revolutionary Dynamic Fit collar. The Phatal II will feature a Dynamic Fit collar but will not feature ACC. These will retail at a price of $200 (around 13,000 INR) and $170 (around 11,000 INR) respectively.
Several high profile Nike players, as Neymar, Wayne Rooney and Harry Keane will be seen in these boots form the 2015-2016 season.
Nike Hypervenom Phantom II will be available for sale from July 2015 and will retail at a price of $275 i.e. around 18,000 INR.
Bottom-line: Hypervenom Phantom II seems a prodigy of football boot desgin.
