I have to say like plenty of Chelsea fans out there, I was shocked to see that Juan Mata had been left out of the squad named Vicente Del Bosque for the two Internationals that Spain have during the next few days!
When asked about Mata’s omission Del Bosque said:
“We could not find him a place. We have enough players for the games. We have chosen those that we think are the best to compete in these matches.”
I know being a Chelsea fan I am biased but how on earth could he not select Mata based on his performances so far this season?
Even Mata himself was surprised at being left out. He said:
“I was excited about these games and confident I would make the squad. I’ve not spoken to the manager. The only thing I can do is keep playing well in order for him to pick me.”
It really is hard to believe, isn’t it. Mata has been the player of the season so far in the League in my eyes and not just for Chelsea but in the league as a whole for me.
We all know when we look at Spain and the players they have that competition for places is at a premium. Looking at Mata’s involvement in the Euros back in the summer, he only played about ten minutes because he is up against the likes of Pedro, Xavi, Iniesta and Fabregas.
However, that was then and this is now and surely Del Bosque would use the two games against Belarus and France this week and especially against Belarus to play other players such as Mata in their midfield as they have been performing well so far this season?
The good thing about all this is that Mata will have another rest and will remain fresh for a big two weeks with Tottenham, Donetsk and two games against United coming up!
For now, I will never understand why Mata has not received a call up because despite Eden Hazard and Oscar impressing for Chelsea so far, Mata has been our Magician this season!!
