Norwich City 0-1 Manchester United: 5 talking points

Questionable team rotation

Rojo was shifted to the centre of defence

The fixture against Norwich City saw Manchester United’s gaffer Louis van Gaal make a set of changes to the side that played against Leicester City last week.

In defence, Marcos Rojo moved to a more central position as Daley Blind was rested for the game, while Matteo Darmian filled in at left-back. In midfield, Juan Mata was brought in for Marouane Fellaini, who was serving a three-match suspension for his on-field brawl with Leicester City defender Robert Huth.

Juan Mata and winger Jesse Lingard switched positions, which led to the ace playmaker being isolated on the flank in the initial parts of the game. Lingard wasn’t that effective in central midfield either. Mata’s ability to dictate the flow of the game was wasted on the wing while Lingard’s pace couldn’t be put to use in the middle of the pitch.

Eyebrows were raised as key player Marcus Rashford, who has been one of the revelations of the Premier League season, was rested at such a crucial stage in the season.
