Norwich City vs Manchester United - Match Preview

Manchester United travel to Norwich for the first time since 2005 when United lost 2-0 with both goals being scored in the second half by Dean Aston and Leon McKenzie. No one from the current Norwich City team was involved in that victory. Norwich haven’t lost at home to United since 1994. Currently at 8th position in the league and coming into the match with two consecutive wins, the team is buzzing and full of confidence ahead of this match.

United are coming off a poor performance in the Europa League, losing for the first time at home in Europe since 2009. The team was quite young with an average age in defense being 21, as the team missed the presence of Rio Ferdinand and Patrice Evra. The central midfield wasn’t at its finest with Cleverley and stand in captain Ji Sung Park playing poorly, with Chicarito’s early goal being their best piece of attacking play. The second half was one of the poorest performances United have produced all season, not even getting a single shot.

After the match, Sir Alex admitted that he got his selections wrong by saying, “I accept responsibility myself because I picked a team with too many youngsters in the back four positions. They all have great potential but on European nights you need experience in the back positions and it just made it a nervy night for us.”

Norwich City have been a real surprise this season, two points clear of the 9th placed Sunderland, with 19 of their 35 points secured away from home. The real statistic that stands out, is that out of the current top six, they have only obtain four points at home which is where they play this Sunday against Manchester United.

Coming off a loss at home against Championship side Leicester City in the 5th round of the FA Cup, Paul Lambert’s men will be looking to bounce back from their terrible display.

Norwich City will have to be at their A-game because Manchester United are looking for the 3 points to keep up the pressure on Manchester City, who are yet to travel to Carrows Road this season. Also, United are looking for the treble over all three newly promoted teams away from home, beating Swansea 1-0 and QPR 2-0.

Will United beat Norwich City 3-0 or will Manchester United stumble after their poor performances in the Europa League against Ajax?
