Chelsea FC have released an official statement on the club website stating that a deal has been struck with German club Bayer 04 Leverkusen over the signing of Andre Schurrle.
The statement on the club website read: “Chelsea Football Club and Bayer 04 Leverkusen have reached an agreement for the transfer of André Schürrle, subject to the completion of legal documentation and related matters, including personal terms and passing a medical.”
The 22-year-old German international has been a long time target for Chelsea and was linked to the London club even before the end of the previous season. Though the deal was said to have stalled because Kevin De Bruyne, who was wanted by Leverkusen on loan, claimed he would prefer to join Champions League runners-up Dortmund on a permanent deal.
New Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho was supposed to hold talks with Leverkusen Sporting Director Rudi Voller in order to finalise the deal. The two were in opposing dugouts for Michael Ballack’s testimonial match in which Andre Schurrle also played.
Schurrle will now join Chelsea on completion of legal documentation, agreement of personal terms and a medical.
