Chelsea‘s Brazilian right-back Wallace has moved to Inter Milan on a season-long loan deal in a move that could be beneficial for all parties. The news was confirmed on Inter Milan’s official site. The 19-year-old only arrived recently from Fluminense, but first-team opportunities at Chelsea seem highly unlikely for him now.
Branislav Ivanovic and Cesar Azpilicueta are ahead of him in the pecking order, and he would have been limited to League Cup appearances alone. As it is, he has the opportunity to play in the Italian Serie A for one of the biggest teams in the world.
Despite this move, it’s doubtful that he will play a lot of matches with Inter this season. He will be competing for first-team spot against Jonathan, while his competition will get even bigger if Inter legend Zanetti returns to first-team action in the next few months. Zanetti is on the treatment table after a long-term anterior cruciate ligament injury suffered last season.
Unlike Chelsea, Inter do not have any form of European football this season. Hence, Wallace will ideally be playing in the Coppa Italia matches rather than the Serie A matches.
