The official Premier League website, this morning, published that Jose Mourinho’s return had been confirmed and provided a full recount of the Portuguese’s previous stint at Chelsea, complete with statistics. But the issue is that this transfer has not been confirmed by Chelsea as of now.
Chelsea, going on the basis of a few reliable sources, were meant to announce the return of the Special One on 2nd June – exactly nine years after he took over for his first reign at Chelsea in 2004. However, under the transfer policies, the club, of course, has to inform the Premier League of any signing or managerial change before revealing the news to the public. Hence, the Premier League has knowledge of every signing the club makes before it is announced by them.
The Premier League also reports of transfers and managerial changes on their website after the club has done so. In this case, the article that was published was meant to be done so on 3rd June, a day or so after the date on which Chelsea were rumoured to announce. However, somehow, someone working for the Premier League website just could not control his/her excitement, and has published it ahead of time!
This has provided us with information that a deal HAS been agreed already for Jose to take over the Blues, but the number of years on his contract is yet to be agreed upon – or at least, yet to be informed to the Premier League – as the PL website only says “Portuguese coach is back at Stamford Bridge after signing a xx-year contract”.
This has since been taken down from the webpage, but the URL to the article on the mobile website still exists. (http://m.premierleague.com/en-gb/news/article.jose-mourinho-returns-to-chelsea.html)
