After weeks and weeks of speculation, it has finally happened. Sadio Mane is officially now a Liverpool player. The former Southampton’s forward future was subject to intense speculation, but it has now been confirmed that Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool won the race for Mane.
Immediately after signing for Liverpool,
Mane told Liverpoolfc.com: “Today is a big day and I am very happy to sign for one of the biggest clubs in Europe.
“It’s a club that has won a lot of trophies and has a big history.
“Now I am looking forward to meeting all the staff and my teammates and starting the season.”
Mane becomes the latest addition to players who have moved from Southampton to Liverpool with the likes of Lallana, Clyne and Lovren already having made the switch from St. Mary’s to Anfield.
Liverpool confirmed the signing on their Twitter account and they also confirmed that he will be wearing number 19 instead of 29.
The fee is rumoured to be around £30 million and he becomes the fourth signing of Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool following Marko Grujic, Joel Matip and Loris Karius.
Mamadou Sakho meanwhile said that Mane will find Liverpool fantastic. Speaking to RTS 1 En Direct in Senegal, he said:
"We met two or three times on the pitch and in the tunnel,"
"It's already been four years that I've been at this fantastic club and he will discover that by himself."
Mane moves to Liverpool after two seasons in the Premier League with Southampton in which he scored 25 goals in 75 appearances.
