Sunderland have confirmed the acquisition of Adnan Januzaj on loan from giants Manchester United. Having already signed Paddy McNari and Donald Love from the club on a permanent basis, the club have announced the third signing from Jose Mourinho's side in two days.
Former Manchester United manager, David Moyes, is in charge of Sunderland and gave Januzaj his competitive debut for the club back in 2013. The 21-year-old, however, failed to impress Louis van Gaal – Moyes' successor at the club – and was subsequently sent out on loan to Borussia Dortmund where he barely played at all.
'Sunderland AFC have completed the signing of Adnan Januzaj on a season-long loan from Manchester United,' a statement on their website read.
'The 21-year-old Belgium international becomes David Moyes’ fourth signing as Sunderland boss.
'Januzaj is no stranger to the Stadium of Light, having scored a brace to give his former club a 2-1 win over the Black Cats back in 2013 on one of his first senior appearances.
'Sunderland’s latest addition is available to make his debut against Manchester City on the opening day of the Premier League season on Saturday.'
Moyes has also spoken about Lamine Koné – the Ivorian defender who was signed from Lorient for £5m in January – and ensured that he'll be part of his plans after Everton reportedly launched a £17m bid last week.
“We’ve told Lamine Koné he will be offered a new contract in September,” Moyes said on Friday afternoon. “Lamine is very much part of my plans. We will renew his contract on 1 September. Lamine is a big part of the team, the fans like him and we need him.”
Sunderland have so far signed Papi Djilobodji from Chelsea; Love, McNair and Januzaj from Manchester United. They're also said to be in the market for a forward.
Manchester United, meanwhile, are also said to be in the market for a defender after Jose Mourinho confirmed that the club were short at the back.
