Well, we now know filling Robin Van Persie’s boots is going to be a headache for Arsene Wenger. New signings Olivier Giroud and Lukas Podolski are yet to deliver the goals that the Arsenal fraternity need so much. Giroud has however urged the fans to allow him some time to be able to gel into the squad, and he will soon be firing them to glory.
At this point in time, it is rather too late for asking to be given time, especially if Arsenal are looking to compete against huge spenders like Chelsea and Manchester United, not to mention Manchester City who have a batallion of players at their disposal. The saddening fact is that while all this is going on, Arsenal are yet to lose another influential player, Alex Song to Barcelona.
It seems rather inevitable that Arsenal is the academy that builds great players, then the other well endowed teams wait to pounce on them as soon as they are ready to leave the bird’s nest. Fabregas left, so did Nasri, Clichy, Van Persie,, and now Song. Rumor has it that Theo Walcott could be next, and what a blow that would be. Maybe next season it will be Wilshere, or even Ramsey, you never know.
However at the moment the focus is on getting into a goalscoring mood and firing Arsenal into Europe, and possibly, however dim the chances are, to glory. As Giroud says, be patient.
