Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud has admitted to his frustration at being left out of the team last week for the win over Hull City, claiming that he can play every game.

The French striker was restored to the starting line-up for their 1-1 draw against Everton after being rested against Hull.

It was the first Premier League game Giroud had missed this season with Aaron Ramsey and Wojciech Szczesny the only two to make more appearances than him.

Arsene Wenger’s failure to sign an extra striker in the summer was another reason for Giroud’s absence with the club set to play six fixtures in 21 days over the busy festive period.

The Gunners face Napoli in their final Group F Champions League match this evening with Giroud prepared to play a pivotal role.

“It did feel strange [to be left out] and I was a bit frustrated because I really want to play every game,” he said. “But the boss said he had reason to leave me on the bench because it is better to have a rest sometimes, though I’m obviously just really happy that the team won the game.”

“We need everyone playing well to achieve our objectives this season and it is a good thing for Nicklas and for his confidence. I thought he played really well in the match and at a good tempo.

“When we manage to play our game, it is always very difficult for the opponents. They have to defend deep and be compact.”
