#1 Mason Mount
20-year-old Mason Mount had a good 2018/19 at Derby County in the Championship playing under Frank Lampard. In a campaign where they lost to Aston Villa in the play-off final, thereby missing out on promotion, Mount scored 11 times for the Rams and racked up six assists across all competitions.
Lampard made it clear at the beginning of his tenure as Chelsea manager that youth would be given chances in his Chelsea set-up, with Mount expected to be in the fold. The showing in pre-season is every bit indicative that all the good things said about Mount in the Championship last season were spot on.
Apart from his guile and link-up in open play, Mount also provides a good option from set plays. His delivery is markedly better than most of Chelsea's shoddy work since Fabregas left the Bridge. Not to mention, he could solve the Blues' goal-scoring issues from the midfield department as well.
Whether he will be able to carry these performances into the active season remains to be seen, but don't be surprised if he starts the first game of the season for the Blues, against good old rivals Manchester United.
