Sunderland manager Paolo Di Canio’s on-field antics seem to have reached new highs as he argued with the referee and suggested he send him off, which was exactly what referee Martin Atkinson did.
Di Canio was arguing with the referee over alleged Arsenal time wasting tactics. When asked about the infraction, the Italian said: “He came to me and said ‘if you keep going with your manner I will send you up to the stand.”
“I said if you want to complete a perfect job, you can send me off. He took it seriously and sent me off.”
He continued, “Next time I will never invite the referee to send me off because he took it seriously.”
Arsenal won the match 3-1 , with goals coming from Olivier Giroud(1) and Aaron Ramsey(2). Star signing Mesut Ozil, who debuted for the Gunners, assisted Giroud for the first goal.
Sunderland are at the bottom of the table with just one point from 4 games while Arsenal are on top with nine points in as many games.
