Paranveer Singh is set to start 2014 with his most ambitious task yet – heading to India for a two month loan deal before returning to a professional club in the UK.
His company, PS14 Limited, is heading on the road to his parents’ native India in a bid to coach youngsters about football whilst also providing motivational and psychological mentoring. Having experienced football set-ups in England with Leyton Orient, West Ham United and Waford, Paranveer decided to act after receiving an offer from India.
“Being one of the very few British Asians in football is definitely responsibility on my shoulders and I want to be apart of the transition of Asians In Football. There are many reasons I launched my own foundation and I want to be apart of the progression to help the next generation.”
He returns to India – where his family are originally from and he is bursting with excitement of bringing his love for the game back to his roots.
“It is a brilliant opportunity for me to progress in my career. I am always open to opportunities and happy to hear offers from around the world. It is a country I have been always interested and open to, the prospect of me playing football in my motherland is exciting and positive prospect which I will embrace,” he said.
He hopes to use his own experience in the game to help progress the Indian league which he feels needs a “foundation” to rise from. Consequently, he hopes this improvement within the league will see the fortunes of the national team rise.
His ascent in the professional game in England has seen him develop a following in India, whilst at the same time he’s training with some professional clubs but unable to provide the names but he looks forward to his return to India with some nerves.
He said: “I do look forward to my return but I am nervous because for the first time I am travelling to India by myself and it is for reasons which don’t involve family. I am looking forward to this journey as it has been a hectic few days since opening my foundation and things have been going too fast and definitely too fast from what I am used to.”
That steep learning curve with setting up his foundation has been balanced with his enthusiasm and ambition that he hopes will see him strive and succeed in the game he has become to love since the age of six.
Paranveer will be leaving for India tomorrow and will return in Febuary 2014 and he hopes to use the momentum of his experience in India to push on ahead with his goal of becoming a professional footballer.
With 2013 nearing its end, Paranveer is keen to thank his Vaibhav Rai and his agent Amar in India whilst speaking excitedly about returning to the Punjab, where his family is from.
Speaking of the trip to the Punjab, Paranveer adds: “I look forward to visiting Mumbai as I am used to attending Punjab which is where my family are from. It is a huge change being without my family on New Years and missing functions but I know these are the sacrifices I have to make and opportunities like these do not come along everyday. I am sure it will be a memorable journey.”
Paranveer hopes to keep everyone updated via his Twitter, @PS14Official and finishes off our conversation with a heart-felt message to India.
“To everybody in India, I look forward to meeting you all and hopefully can greet you all,” he says.
