Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has emerged as a summer transfer target for big spending French side Paris Saint-Germain, report the Daily Mail.
The England international is believed to be worried about the imminent appointment of Louis van Gaal as David Moyes’ successor, with the 28-year-old increasingly concerned that he will not feature heavily in the Dutchman’s plans.
Fellow forward Robin van Persie looks set to be handed a central role by his compatriot if he fills the current managerial vacancy, which will put Rooney’s place in the team in jeopardy.
He also faces stiff competition from January signing Juan Mata in his preferred number 10 role and is unlikely to be satisfied to be offered a bit part role for the Red Devils.
Meanwhile, PSG were strongly linked with a move for Rooney in January, only for the front man to rebuff their advances and sign a financially lucrative deal at United worth £300,000-a-week.
However, although he has committed his long term future to the club if Rooney has a change of heart United will be able to command a sizeable fee for his services.
The Parisiens are unlikely to be deterred by a significant asking price, which is believed to be around £35 million, as Laurent Blanc’s look set to assert their place in Europe’s elite this summer.
