Patrice Evra has ended his eight and a half year stay at Manchester United and agreed to join Juventus for an initial fee of £1.2 million, which can rise to £1.5 million if Juventus qualify for the Champions League next season.
In a message to United fans on ManUtd.com, he said, ”After a great deal of thought I have decided the time is right for me to leave Manchester United. It is the biggest decision of my career as this club is, and will always remain, in my heart."
The Frenchman is a very popular among his team-mates and the fans for his passion and dedication to the club. He made 379 appearances and scored 10 goals during his nine successful seasons with Manchester United. He also donned the captain’s armband during Nemanja Vidic’s absence.
Evra’s time at Manchester United
The attack minded left back joined United from Monaco for £5.5m in January 2006. His intial time at Old Trafford was marred by a struggle to adapt to the Premier League. He made his debut for Manchester United in a derby against Manchester City, where he was substituted at the half-time of a 3-1 loss. But it took him all of 6 months to displace Gabriel Heinze from the first 11, as the club went on to win the 2006-07 Premier League title, the first of a lot of silverware in the next few years.
He was a major success at OId Trafford, as he won 5 Premier League titles, 3 League Cups, 1 Champions League and the Club World Cup.
Evra was also named in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year in 2006-2007, 2008-2009, and 2009-2010 seasons and was part of the UEFA Team of the Year and FIFA FIFPro World XI in 2009.
