Juventus manager Antonio Conte has said that midfielder Paul Pogba has the potential to become the best player in the world.
Juventus went into the season opener with hopes of securing their third straight Serie A title against Sampdoria on Saturday and a second half goal from new signing Carlos Tevez ensured that the defending champions started off with a win.
However, it was the performance of Pogba that caught the eye of Conte.
“Pogba is a modern player, as he is strong, fast and has stamina. He’s also humble, so listens to the advice given by me and by his team-mates. We started working on him a year ago and his progress has been incredible. I saw his interviews in which he said he wanted to become the best in the world. I am happy with that, because in my view he can be the best,” said Conte after the match.
Pogba will extend his run in the first team after Claudio Marchisio’s knee injury, which will force him out of competitive matches for a month.
The young French international had only praise for his team-mates and the club.
“I feel like I have improved a lot especially playing with the likes of Pirlo, Arturo, Chiellini and now Tevez. We are strong mentally. We are Juve and we always want to win,” he said.
