Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba was victim to a burglary incident on Saturday, as reported by Gazzetta Dello Sport.
Incidently, Pogba was in Milan, busy playing in the Derby d’Italia against Inter Milan. The thieves seem to have had an idea beforehand that the French powerhouse would be away from his house for the weekend.
The burglars are reported to have entered his residence by breaking down a window and have made away with various valuables, which include precious gold jewellery and a number of expensive designer clothes. His apartment is situated in the Santa Rita area in the south-west of Turin.
Pogba was unaware of the burglary until Monday, as he returned to Turin, along with the team. Naturally, he was taken aback by the condition of his apartment, which was in complete disarray.
The local police have started investigations regarding the burglary and hope to nab the ones responsible as early as possible.
Incident piles on dismal season for the club so far
Pogba and the Bianconeri have had a substandard start to the season so far. The Turin-based outfit, who won the Scudetto in each of the last 4 seasons, currently occupy 14th position in the Serie A table, with only nine points from 8 matches. Juventus’ stuttering beginning to the season continued in Milan as well, where they only managed a 0-0 draw with the Nerazzurri.
The ex-Manchester United player was handed additional responsibilities after Carlos Tevez, Arturo Vidal and Andrea Pirlo all left the club after a great season. Juventus won their fourth consecutive Serie A title, the Coppa Italia title and also reached the final of UEFA Champions League, only to be halted by the Barcelona juggernaut.
Pogba was also given the no.10 jersey, which only adds further pressure on the 22-years old midfielder. He has scored only the one goal so far in the Serie A, though, it was around this time last year that he started to perform well for the team. And, given Pogba’s potential, the talisman might just come out good gradually as the season progresses.
He was also linked with various clubs throughout the summer transfer window. His agent, Mino Raiola even went on to say that Pogba’s transfer fee would break the world record, and that he could move to six different teams. Though, the Frenchman ultimately decided to continue his career with Juventus.
Pogba might want to shake off the burglary incident from his mind as soon as possible because bigger and harder tests await for him and his club.
