A question that has been posed by pundits, fans and players of the Premier League is who the best English midfielder was – Steven Gerrard or Paul Scholes. Both Englishmen are legends of their clubs during their playing days and became fan favourites with a number of outstanding and consistent performances.
Both players scored a number of goals for their clubs and delighted fans with their breathtaking passing range apart from their all round game. Who edged it, though? Paul Scholes however, was asked that exact question on BT Sport and had a rather clever answer. This came shortly after the Liverpool legend Gerrard announced his retirement from football.

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has revealed the answer to that question and it was a pretty cheeky one from him.
When the presenter asked the question and directed it to Michael Owen, he turned to Scholes and said, “What do you reckon Scholesy?”
Scholes was rather amused by the fact that he was put on the spot like that and cheekily replied, “No question, isn’t it?”
People often compare the three best English midfield players of their generation – Paul Scholes, Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard without reaching any conclusion. They were all great players in their own right and had different attributes.
