Arsenal should really be focusing their attention on a new striker in January, but they have also been linked with the Clasico pair, so who would be the better signing?
1. Angel Di Maria
Basically every top club in Europe has been linked with the Argentina international since the record breaking transfer of Gareth Bale. Angel Di Maria has claimed that he is happy in the Spanish capital despite seeing his chances in the first team decline. Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City, Manchester United, Inter Milan, Paris Saint Germain and AS Monaco have all been linked to the former Benfica man, making the competition tough for the Gunners. Di Maria however would suit Arsenal’s style perfectly. He’s a good passer, has glue-like ball control, he’s fast and also skillful, while also having an assist tally Mesut Ozil would be proud of. He is likely to cost a huge transfer fee, which would be hard for Arsenal to pay, and although Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur would also find it hard to stump up that much money, and that may be encouraging for the Gunners, what may be tough to accept is that Inter, Paris Saint Germain and Monaco are three of the richest clubs in the world, and could meet his value quite easily. However, if Di Maria drops any hints that Arsenal would be his preferred destination, Arsene Wenger should do all he can to sign him.
2. Pedro Rodriguez
Barcelona players are rarely linked with a move away from the Catalan capital and the rumours be any more than cheap, made up speculation, and this is probably the case once again, though it is understandable why Arsenal would be interested in the Spain international. Just after hitting a hat-trick against Getafe, Pedro is finally facing up to the competition that Neymar and Alexis Sanchez offer, and Barcelona have benefited from it, as they now have three of the best wingers on the planet in their ranks. Barcelona are not going to willingly let him leave, meaning that Arsene Wenger needs to activate his buyout clause which is very much unlikely. But Barcelona are in need of a new striker, while their defence is in desperate need for regeneration, and if a player must be sacrificed, there is a good chance it will be one of their wingers that will be cut-loose, but there is a bigger chance of that being Cristian Tello than Pedro. If there is any hope of Arsenal finding their way around his astronomical buyout clause, they should try their luck, as there are few in the world as good as or better than the Tenerife native.
But who will fit more in Arsenal colours? Pedro or Di Maria?
Conclusion
Seeing Pedro leave Barcelona is almost impossible, while the prospect of him taking the step down to Arsenal is an even more unlikely sight. However, Angel Di Maria would be more available and also cheaper, and the Gunners should make a move for the Argentine if they think they can keep up with the competition. Di Maria is a cheaper option, who is also one of the best wingers in the world, and the chances of signing him are indescribably better.
