Pep Guardiola is confident of Bayern Munich’s chances to qualify for the Champions League final as his side take on Real Madrid at the Allianz arena on Tuesday night.
Real Madrid hold a slender advantage coming into the 2nd leg of the tie as they held the defending champions 1-0 at the Santiago Bernabeu. And the Bavarian manager is confident of turning things around in front of the home fans.
While Madrid are looking to avenge their defeat to Bayern at the same stage two years ago, history is against them as the German giants have never lost against them at home, winning eight games and drawing one in all their home encounters against the Spanish club.
Both the teams ended their week on a high note as Real Madrid brushed aside Osasuna 4-0 at home. While Bayern Munich won against Werder Bremen, it was not before an unconvincing first half performance from Pep’s boys as they came from behind to convert a 1-2 scoreline in the first half to win 5-2.
“That is the first time that I have been a bit disappointed and sad about the first half – the fans didn’t deserve that,” Guardiola told the reporters.
“We were better in the second half, that’s good for the mood ahead of the Madrid match, but it will be a completely different game.
“I trust my team and I hope that we can all manage it together.” he added.
Bayern are poised to become the first club to defend the European title in the Champions League era while Real Madrid are chasing their illusive dream of attaining ‘La Decima.’
With Ronaldo and Bale fit for the Los Blancos, Pep will have to get his team selection right to stop Real Madrid from gaining advantage at Germany.
The semi final takes place on Tuesday, 29 April, as both sides will look to reach their final destination in Lisbon.
