Pep Guardiola has come under a scathing attack from Peter Schmeichel. The Dane spoke about Manchester City's new manager ahead of the much awaited Manchester derby this Saturday. The 52-year-old has branded Guardiola as boring and termed his success at Barcelona as lucky. Pep Guardiola was highly successful at Camp Nou as he won three league titles, the Copa Del Rey and two Champions League during his time with the Catalans.
Schmeichel said to Omnisport, "With Pep, he comes in with an incredible reputation. What he did with Barcelona was fantastic, his work was fantastic, but he was also very lucky he had the players to bring in the philosophy that he has in football.”
The Dane continued by comparing Sir Alex Ferguson’s style with that of the Spaniard, “So whereas Alex Ferguson's first priority was 'we have to be able to score goals' - for most coaches that's the priority - with Pep it's possession, I want to have as much possession as possible. So the philosophy goes to 'I want to have so much possession that at some point we'll score a goal from that, the goals will come from possession' and that's his philosophy."

The former Manchester United goalkeeper also credited all of Guardiola's success at Barcelona to the talent of Lionel Messi, Andres Iniesta and Xavi who were at his disposal. He then later said about bringing this style to City as he continued in his attack of the Spaniard, "That's what we'll see at Manchester City or he's going to introduce that. He was very lucky he had the players at Barcelona but he was clever in what he did."
Guardiola's stint with Bayern Munich also came under the microscope from Schmeichel as he was not really impressed with the Spaniard’s coaching at the club, "He was okay at Bayern Munich. I have to say he was okay. For me, personally, he changed a really good, entertaining team to be become more boring to watch. Whereas Bayern before were very direct, they won the treble, had quick players and were exciting to watch, he made them play more square. He changed the players, but you can't argue with his results."

Schmeichel who made 398 appearances for Manchester United warned the Spaniard about the difficulty of the Premier League by adding, "It just goes on and on and on, you feel it never stops, even in March you have 12 games to go, you think will this ever stop?"
It will be interesting as to how the Manchester derby goes as old rivals Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho meet. A lot has been said by various players and the clash will certainly be an intriguing one.
