Pepe Reina’s agent has confirmed that he will not return to Napoli next season, as reported by the Daily Star.
The 34-capped Spanish international returned to Liverpool this summer, having spent last season on loan to the Serie A club.
Reina had a productive campaign with Gli Azzurri, making 30 league appearances as Napoli secured Champions League football with a third-place finish.
The 31-year-old shot-stopper also got his hands on some silverware, when Napoli clinched the Coppa Italia by virtue of a 3-1 win over Fiorentina in the final. Furthermore, in Serie A Reina made 59 saves in 30 games last season. While he also kept ten clean sheets.
Given his success in Italy, rumours of Reina making a permanent move to Napoli have surfaced in the past few months.
However, the player’s agent has now quashed any talk of a transfer away from Anfield, maintaining that Reina will fight for the No. 1 jersey alongside incumbent Reds goalkeeper Simon Mignolet.
“I’m aware of the rumours circulating about the future of Reina,” Manuel Garcia Quillon said.
“But I can confirm that Pepe will play in Liverpool next season.”
“Reina will respect his contract with the English club.”
