New Arsenal signing Petr Cech labelled Arsenal an ‘extraordinary’ side and believes that the Gunners are definitely capable of challenging Chelsea for the Barclays Premier League title, according to The Mirror. The Czech international moved across London from the Blues for a £11m fee, and appears to have settled in nicely after making his pre-season debut against Everton in Singapore last weekend.
When asked about the differences between his former club and his new side, the 33-year-old pointed out to ‘little details’, although he also suggested that the two sides share many similarities.
“There are a lot of things in common. What I’ve found is a group of players who work very hard and are focused on what they are doing on the pitch to get ready,” he said as reported in the Mirror.
"I’ve found the team spirit quite extraordinary. Everybody pulls in the same direction, which is why I believe we will have a successful season.”
He added: “In all those games Chelsea were on top we managed the little details better. I hope to be on the winning side again. It’s as simple as that. I play football to win games.”
Arsenal are a well-balanced side: Cech
Cech was also impressed with the mix of youth and experience at Arsenal and has backed his new team-mates to help the club pick up trophies in the upcoming campaign.
“We have a good balance. We have players with a lot of experience, who have won the World Cup for example, and young players who want to prove their point and play as much as possible. We have experienced players and hungry players so that balance gives us an advantage.”
He went on to stress the importance of squad depth and said: “There are a lot of talented players in our team, but the real strength lies in our numbers. This squad has a number of players ready to compete for every position, and we will need them all during the course of the season.”
The keeper also hailed the stability of the Arsenal under their boss Arsene Wenger, who completes two decades at the club in 2016.
"If you look at what Chelsea have won over the last 11 years you can’t really argue with what they’ve done. Stability is generally a much better solution, but it’s hard to achieve. Arsenal are very lucky to have had a manager with such qualities for such a long time."
Cech is expected to be in action for the Gunners in the Emirates Cup this weekend when they take on Lyon and Wolfsburg.
