The Premier League is a tough place to survive. Ask Radamel Falcao or Diego Forlan, they'd tell you. Every club has a roster of talented footballers, but due to luck, situations, managerial reigns and many more factors, some talent always goes overlooked.
We've seen a fair share of careers stagnate at the top of the Premier League with competition for a starting spot and a featuring role being very intense.
This list aims to pick out one player from each of the Premier League's top six, who are way down in the pecking order at their current clubs, but would be good additions for most other teams in need of signings.
#6 Mathieu Debuchy (Arsenal)
Age: 32
Position: Right-Back
It's hard to believe that it was only around three years ago that Mathieu Debuchy was starting at right-back for the French national team ahead of the likes of Bacary Sagna. However, injuries and the emergence of Hector Bellerin caused Debuchy to become a forgotten figure at the Emirates.
This status becomes even more evident looking at his appearances for the London outfit. Debuchy has only been a part of 30 games for Arsenal following his move from Newcastle in 2014.
A stable presence on the right flank, Debuchy is a potent crosser of the ball and a composed figure in defence. Capped 27 times by the French national team, he is an internationally experienced player and still has a lot to offer even at this age.
The full-back would be a smart signing for any mid-table Premier League side looking to add some steel to their defence. The Frenchman certainly has enough left in him to pack a last hurrah if he leaves the Emirates in the current window.
If recent rumors are anything to go by, West Brom has supposedly made their interest in the French full-back known, in what sounds like a move that would make sense for both parties.
West Brom has struggled for form and the input of an experienced international of the calibre of Debuchy would be a bonus for them. Additionally, a transfer would offer the Arsenal outcast a chance to rack up some minutes in England's top tier in what could possibly be his last stint at the top.
#5 Michel Vorm (Tottenham Hotspur)
Age: 34
Position: Goalkeeper
Once part of a talented Swansea side that won the League Cup against all odds, Vorm was once Swansea's Player of the Year and has accumulated 15 caps for the Dutch national team.
He was signed by Tottenham in 2014 following his impressive performances at Swansea and on the international stage. Initially signed to provide competition for Hugo Lloris, the 34 year-old was only able to maintain his back-up spot behind the club captain, who is one of the best in the business.
Now, with Tottenham having signed Paolo Gazzaniga as well, Mauricio Pocchetino is turning to his compatriot more often, limiting Vorm's playing time even further. Vorm should be looking to move on and build on the reputation he earned during his stint at the Welsh club.
Having played only 34 games for the club in a period of over 3 years, it would only be wise for Vorm to try his luck elsewhere.
At 34, his time at the top is running out and his vast experience would serve him well, should he seek a move away from the North London club.
Clubs like Crystal Palace and West Ham who are currently looking for goalkeeping reinforcements should be keeping an eye out on Vorm, who will be more than a handy addition to their squads.
#4 Abdul Rahman Baba (Chelsea)
Age: 23
Position: Left-Back
Touted to be one for the future, Abdul Rahman Baba was signed for a sum of around 20 million pounds from Augsburg in the Bundesliga. After a breakout season for the Bavarian club, he was rated as one of the best full-backs in the Bundesliga.
Following a slow adaptation to the Chelsea squad, expectations were high and the Ghanaian's initial performances received plaudits from the Chelsea faithful.
Unfortunately, a costly mistake against Southampton during Chelsea's 2-1 loss to them in the 2015-16 season, marked the beginning of the end and the young full-back never fully recovered from this setback.
A loan move to Schalke followed, where Baba finally got some playing time. However, an untimely injury sustained during international duty, prematurely ended his loan-spell.
With Conte initially having ruled the young Ghanaian out for being too attack minded, it would be wise for him to look for a move elsewhere to escape stagnation in what looked like a career headed to the very top of the game.
Still only 23, his skill set and physical attributes are impressive. Under the right tutelage and given the necessary minutes on the pitch, he could yet develop and deliver what was expected of him.
Considering the lack of options at left wing-back for Chelsea, once fully recovered from his injury, Baba may still have a chance at Chelsea, but before then, it would be advisable to take another a temporary departure away from the Bridge to put his career back in motion.
#3 Danny Ings (Liverpool)
Age: 25
Position: Striker
A very talented striker with a knack for finding the goal, Danny Ings was signed by Liverpool from Burnley following his heroics at Turf Moor, scoring 11 goals in 35 appearances for the goal-shy Clarets.
He was sidelined with injury immediately after his move before he sustained two further serious injuries, one on each knee, which have ruled him out of play for almost two years.
Currently fit and recuperating, Ings is unfortunately only third choice in what is now an extremely talented outfit with the likes of Roberto Firmino and Daniel Sturridge ahead of him in the pecking order.
In what can be described as an unfortunate series of events, Ings' career might have reached a point of practically no development, but if he continues to recuperate and is able to maintain fitness, he would prove to be a bargain for any club involved.
Once the Championship Player of the Year and Burnley's attacking spearhead, Ings is a more than capable attacker and can provide to be a smart snap up for clubs lacking on the goal scoring front.
Clubs like Huddersfield and Newcastle United, who are desperately lacking creativity and goals, should definitely consider Ings. The striker himself would also benefit from a move as much as the club involved.
Every English football fan would be looking forward to see whether Ings can complete a successful return and get his career back on track. A move to a club such as the above mentioned might just be what is required to drive the player ahead.
#2 Daley Blind (Manchester United)
Age: 27
Position: Left-Back/Center-Back/Defensive Midfield
One of the star performers of the 2014 FIFA World Cup, Daley Blind is a very versatile and talented player who can play in multiple roles. Tactically flexible and technically sound, Blind is an example of a player, who is suffering from a lack of faith in him and his abilities.
A top class player with great reading of the game, Blind brings dangerous crossing and a fantastic left foot. Capable of playing as a left-back, in the heart of defence or as a defensive midfielder, Blind is an experienced international, boasting upwards of 50 appearances for the Netherlands.
The son of former Ajax legend Danny Blind has proven to be a good squad player for United under Jose Mourinho but is definitely capable of nailing down a starting role and deserves more playing time considering the wealth of talent in store.
Having made only 5 appearances in this Premier League season, Blind should ideally be weighing up his options for a move away from Old Trafford. At 27, he is at the age where a defender peaks and a lack of playing time doesn't serve him well in that matter.
Having been linked with even with clubs of the stature of Barcelona previously, it wouldn't be difficult to secure a move away due to his versatility and his ability to chip in with attacking contributions as well.
#1 Yaya Toure (Manchester City)
Age: 34
Position: Central Midfield
A modern day great and a classified Manchester City legend, Yaya Toure is an absolutely phenomenal footballer, who could take a game by the scruff of its neck when required.
Currently aged 34, Toure is a very influential figure in the City dressing room and is one of Pep's generals. However, it wasn't long ago that the former African Player of the Year was cribbing over a move (remember the birthday cake incident?).
At 34, the engine at the center of the park may have lost a bit of its' spark, but as the saying goes "class is permanent". The Ivorian could cash in for one last payday before he takes off from top level football.
A move to any European club in need of a midfield leader or a deep-lying playmaker would make sense and even a last massive payday from the Chinese Super League or the MLS seem to be a fine decision to make.
The former Barcelona man could tear defences apart and give goalkeepers nightmares with his long-range shooting. Additionally, he would provide a certain star appeal and brand value to any club he moves to.
Let's not forget that it's only been three years since he was crowned the CAF's African Footballer of the Year and he featured in the second team for the FifPro World XI.
We might just be lucky enough to see him boss around at the center of the park and banging in them worldies for a different team for another couple of years.
