The north London derby ended 2-2 with 10-man Arsenal rescuing a point at White Hart Lane after Tottenham Hotspur had initially come back from 1-0 down to lead 2-1. Aaron Ramsey had scored the opener in the first half before Francis Coquelin was sent off in the second half.
That was all the invitation the home side needed as two quick-fire goals from Toby Alderweireld and Harry Kane saw Spurs take a lead. But Alexis Sanchez soon restored parity and the game ended 2-2 with both sides sharing the spoils.
But Ramsey’s wonderful goal scored with a back-flick was the major talking point both during and after the game. It became a phenomenon when famous celebrities and personalities around the world were killed or passed away the very next day. Since 2011, people ranging from Osama Bin Laden to Robin Williams have died after Ramsey scored.
So when he scored today, people took to Twitter to have some fun. The last time he scored (against Liverpool in January), actor Alan Rickman passed away.
We start with one of Twitter’s favourite (and probably most-hated people) in Piers Morgan. He was unhappy to see Ramsey start in a crucial game.
Of course, he shut up as soon as he scored. And he also tweeted about the so-called Ramsey curse. He wasn’t the only one though.
There were a number of other tweets from stats to fan reactions after Ramsey scored. The north London derby is one of the most high-scoring fixtures in the Premier League and also one of the most unpredictable matches since teams who score first end up losing most of the time.
Of course, Piers Morgan still had to put in a final word.
