Pirlo: Individual Highlights v England
This is possibly one of the best highlights of his highly decorated career. A majestic and graceful performance from the 33 year old. He passed the ball more times than all four of England’s starting midfielders combined.
His pass accuracy was 88%, he ran 15.2km, made 117 of Italy’s 815 passes, scored a brilliant penalty and did not commit a single foul.
On being asked about the penalty he scored, “Hart seemed to be very confident in himself. I needed to do something to beat him and it seemed to be a psychological blow. It was not madness. I decided when I saw Hart moving before the kick. I just had this inspiration. I didn’t celebrate the penalty because at that point there was nothing to celebrate. We were still down. But it changed the course of the match.”
