It’s that time of the week again; only Monday Night Football remains until the next round of Premier League fixtures and that leaves only one thing left for us to do. Who’s taking home the coveted Squawka Player of the Weekend award?
Match-winning displays from several key players this weekend saw Aaron Ramsey come out on top despite Eden Hazard and Sergio Aguero both scoring a brace in wins for their teams. It was Ramsey’s attacking display that was again at the heart of Arsenal’s victory – scoring an incredible 116 points in just 54 minutes.
Coming on for the injured Mathieu Flamini just before the end of the first-half it looked as though Arsenal would miss the Frenchman’s discipline in front of the back four. Ramsey filled in admirably for the former AC Milan midfielder, and despite conceding in the 75th minute, he proved that attack is the best form of defence as the Gunners put 4 past a hapless Norwich.
Whilst Ramsey has made the most successful tackles in the premier League this season (now 34 tackles won), it was his attacking performance that wooed the crowd at the Emirates this weekend. Ramsey added another goal to his tally for the season – leaving Norwich defenders in his wake as he slalomed through them like an Olympic skier before finishing in style.
His partner in crime, Jack Wilshere, may have stolen the thunder after scoring what was arguably the goal of the season so far. But Ramsey’s contribution did not gone unnoticed as team-mate Thomas Vermaelen declared him the best player in the Premier League.
“He is the best player in the Premier League at the moment.
“He is scoring goals and looking really sharp with his passing.
“He’s doing extremely well.” said the Belgium defender when speaking to the Sunday Mirror.
Ramsey’s statistics for the game show just how relentless he has been so far this season as he complimented an 89% pass success rate with his third assist of the season – playing a further 2 key passes.
Just when you thought he couldn’t perform much better, he posts his best figures for the season and his performance typified his recent prominence in the Arsenal team. Despite being left out of the starting eleven in favour of Jack Wilshere, he didn’t let it get him down and when his chance came in the 37th minute he showed Wenger that he wants to be the main man in North London.
