Chelsea hammered Cardiff City today, thanks to goals from Eden Hazard, Samuel Eto’o and Oscar. However, Cardiff scored the opening goal, thanks Jordon Mutch, but this goal was cancelled out by a controversial goal by Hazard. Here are the player ratings based on Squawka Performance Score.
Chelsea
Goalkeeper: Petr Cech - 32 points
On his 300th Premier League appearance, Cech made some critical saves to ensure his side emerged victorious.
Right-Back: Branislav Ivanovic - 6 Points
In a game that was not up to his usual standards, Ivanovic performed better in the second-half after a poor start. The big Serb had a pass accuracy of just 68% today.
Left-Back: Ryan Bertrand - 22 Points
Bertrand provided Chelsea with some much needed additional width and showed Jose Mourinho that he can challenge Ashley Cole for a starting berth. The former Reading loanee completed 67 passes, with a 94% pass accuracy.
Centre-Back: John Terry - 29 Points
A typically solid performance from the Chelsea skipper saw him pick up a Performance Score of 29. The centre-back made a whopping 82 passes, with a pass completion rate of 98%.
Centre-Back: David Luiz : -31 Points
Luiz was at fault for the goal Chelsea conceded, during the game, he did not attempt a single tackle or a single aerial duel.
Central Midfield: Ramires - 5 Points
Ramires had a fairly quiet game, something which is reflected in his Performance Score. His pass accuracy was surprisingly low, he completed 73% of his passes and failed to make a successful take-on.
Central Midfield: Frank Lampard - 40
Lampard kept Chelsea ticking over today, he had a 91% pass accuracy and won all his tackles.
Attacking Midfield: Willian - -4 Points
Willian was anonymous for much of the game, allowing Lampard to do most of the work. Still adapting to life in the Premier League.
Right-Wing: Juan Mata - 30 Points
Gave his usual creative performance before being substituted; in the first-half, he created five chances, which was more than the whole of the Cardiff team.
Left-Wing: Eden Hazard - 96 Points
An absolutely blistering performance from Hazard saw him score twice and provide an assist.
Striker: Samuel Eto’o - 85 Points
His sharp thinking to nick the ball off Marshall gave Chelsea a way back into the game and his goal was taken in brilliant fashion.
Subs:
Oscar (Mata, 58) - 47 Points
A very good finish made his appearance a justified one.
Fernando Torres (Bertrand, 63) - 3 Points
A steady but unspectacular performance from the Spaniard.
Cesar Azplicueta (Eto’o, 68) - 4 Points
Brought on to allow Chelsea to revert to a back four, and did not have to do much towards the end of the game.
Cardiff
Goalkeeper: David Marshall - -125 Points
At fault for the bizarre first as well as the third and fourth goals, Marshall had an absolutely awful performance which he will unfortunately remember for years to come.
Left-Back: Andrew Taylor - -18 Points
Taylor offered little in attack and was largely anonymous.
Right-Back: Kevin Theophile-Carter - -33 Points
An awful pass completion rate of just 55% underpinned Theophile-Carter’s whole performance.
Centre-Back: Steven Caulker - -15 Points
Despite conceding four goals, Caulker won 2/3 tackles. However, he was outmatched in the air, winning just 2/5 headers.
Centre-Back: Ben Turner - 10 Points
A solid performance from Turner, in which he won all of his headers, made him the only Cardiff defender with a positive Performance Score.
Central Midfield: Aron Gunnarsson - -4 Points
An all action performance from Gunnarsson made him one of Cardiff’s better performers, winning all three of his tackles.
Central Midfield: Gary Medel - -6 Points
Medel’s biggest contribution to the game was leaving the field to be replaced by Kim.
Right-Wing: Don Cowie - -23 Points
Cowie failed to make an impact on the game and was isolated on the wing.
Left-Wing: Guy Whittingham - 19 Points
Whittingham’s combination with Kim in the second half was partially responsible for Cardiff’s improved performanc in comparison to the first period, despite the scoreline.
Attacking Midfield: Jordon Mutch - 52 Points
Mutch capitalised on an error by David Luiz to open the scoring and also created a chance for his team. He was everywhere on the field and made a huge contribution to Cardiff’s all-round play.
Striker: Peter Odemwingie - 13 Points
Largely isolated in the first-half, Odemwingie held the ball up well and laid it off to the rest of his team, ending the game with a 92% pass completion rate.
Subs
Kim Bo-Kyung (Medel, 55 mins) - -1 Point
Despite his low score, Kim helped Cardiff recover from their poor first-half performance when he was brought on and, if not for a great Petr Cech save, would have grabbed a goal too.
Frazier Campbell (Odemwingie, 66 mins) - 22 Points
Campbell laid down his claim for a starting slot next week with his performance when he replaced Peter Odemwingie.
Rudy Gestede (Gunnarsson, 80 mins) - 1 Points
Brought on when the game was all but over, Gestede could contribute little to his side’s cause.
