Manchester City and Aleksandar Kolarov find themselves in the midst of a racial allegation as a spectator at St. James’ Park lodged a complaint against the Serbian defender.
It is understood that the 27-year-old Kolarov was arguing with a supporter carrying an Albanian flag on the sidelines during the game. There have been several territorial disputes between Albania and Serbia in recent years and that may have played a significant role in the alleged racial abuse from the City defender.
Meanwhile, Northumbria Police confirmed that they received a complaint in the wake of this incident during a 3-1 defeat of Newcastle at the hands of Manchester City earlier this evening.
A spokesman said, “Northumbria Police takes such allegations extremely seriously and enquiries are ongoing into the incident.”
Neither club has released any official statement regarding this issue so far. However, it is undersood that Kolarov will be speaking to the police in the coming few days.
