Last night, Chelsea lost their second home game in a row losing 2-0 to a hard working Swansea side.
Let’s hold our hands up here and congratulate Swansea on the result and their performance. They set up to make it difficult for Chelsea and to try and get something on the counter and did exactly that. It’s just a shame that Branislav Ivanovic, who has been our most reliable and consistent defender, made two mistakes that were punished!
Chelsea failed to make their chances count and could have been two goals up in the first half. Ramires and Juan Mata should have both done better in front of goal.
With stern defending and wasted chances, you could see that it was going to be difficult for Chelsea to brake this side down and it proved to be the case.
Fernando Torres was non existent, Oscar struggled out wide in a position that he isn’t comfortable with and when Rafa Benitez finally decided to make changes, he made the wrong one first and then the final two twenty minutes too late in the game.
The fans made their feelings clear with chants of “We want Demba Ba” when it was obvious that Torres wasn’t in the game and “One Di Matteo” after the second goal went in.
What was also noticeable tonight was the fact that for the first time, when he came off, Fernando Torres was booed by the supporters and I am sure he heard it.
So we leave the Bridge tonight losing 2-0 from a game we should (on paper) have taken a lead into the second leg.
Can Chelsea turn this round in two weeks time? Let’s hope so!
