#3 Why weren't Juventus awarded the late penalty?
Juventus were adamant that they should have received a penalty after Cristiano Ronaldo was fouled in the area, and replays showed that the Italians were well within their right to be furious.
The Portugal international excellently controlled the ball in the air and would have had a chance at goal had he not been fouled by Chancel Mbemba. The referee apparently did not see the incident and blew his final whistle not long after.
This is where the VAR should have come in to call the attention of the referee to the issue. It is not a matter of the final whistle having been blown, as there have been many cases where penalties were awarded after half-time or the full-time whistle. Manchester United against Brighton readily comes to mind.
It is for clear and obvious errors like this that VAR was brought in, and this gaffe represents another black mark against the use of the technology.
#2 Impressive Porto fail to secure a more dominant victory
Porto clearly dominated Juventus for the first hour of the game despite having less possession than their visitors.
In the build-up to the game, the Dragons' manager Sergio Conceicao recalled beating Juventus as a player and urged his players to give him the same feeling as a manager.
The 46-year-old deviated from the low-block that he usually deploys against bigger sides on the continent. Instead, he set up his side to be more proactive, and it paid dividends in the early moments of the game.
Porto's high press caused several problems for a Juventus defense that seemed bent on playing out from the back. In the first half, several good opportunities fell the way of the hosts but they failed to take them.
Despite picking up the victory, Porto had a chance to secure a more convincing victory against Juventus. Their failure to take them saw the visitors punish them in the dying minutes.
#1 Another GOAT fails to turn up
After Barcelona suffered their disappointing 4-1 defeat to PSG, Lionel Messi suffered the brunt of the blame on social media, with many accusing him of failing to turn up when it mattered most.
Predictably, GOAT discussions surfaced, and Juventus talisman Cristiano Ronaldo found himself trending worldwide.
The Portugal captain has a penchant for stepping up on the continent and infamously came into this game as the only Juventus player to have scored a knockout goal since joining the club three years ago.
However, just like his Argentine rival, the Madeira native also had a game to forget in front of goal. Juventus' lack of application meant that their number 7 was starved off the ball, and he had to drop deep on several occasions to try and get involved.
Ronaldo's frustration was evident for most of the game, and the unsuccessful penalty appeal in the last minute only served to further incense him.
In total, the former Real Madrid man had just one shot in the match and will be hoping for a more productive outing on home soil.
