Portuguese outfit Porto are to set to spark a bidding war with Manchester United for highly-rated defender Bruno Martins Indi this summer, report the Daily Star.
The 22-year-old centre-back has produced two impressive displays for the Netherlands at the World Cup, which included a 5-1 victory over reigning world champions Spain, to help his side secure progression to the knock-out stages with one game to spare in Group B.
Martins Indi attracted a significant amount of interest from a number of European sides prior to the tournament, but the Feyenoord defender’s displays on the world stage have only served to intensify the race for his signature.
Following the news that Louis van Gaal is set to take charge at Old Trafford once the showpiece event in Brazil is over, the vastly experienced manager was widely expected to bring his countryman to England’s top tier so the defender could play a significant part in his future plans with the Red Devils.
United are desperately in need of defensive additions to their squad after the double departure of veteran duo Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic.
However, Porto are keen to take advantages of the Dutch manager’s commitment to the national side by preparing a £6.5 million for Martins Indi. The Portuguese side are keen to complete a quick purchase o the defender before Van Gaal begins his role with United.
