Paterson was at the right place at the right time when Kadeem Harris cross from the byline took a deflection of Gaëtan Bong, and looped towards the centre of the goal were Callum Paterson headed it into the bottom left corner from close range.
Martin Atkinson handed Brighton’s Dale Stephens a straight red card for a high tackle on Greg Cunningham in the 34th minute. In the aftermath of the tackle, Paterson involved in an ugly altercation received a yellow card.
Bamba‘s bicycle kick struck the post, and the follow-up shot from Paterson deflected off Dunk and onto the crossbar in the 90th minute.

Ivan Cavaleiro capitalised on the loose ball from Granit Xhaka after a one-two exchange with Raul Jimenez ended up with Cavaleiro finding the bottom right corner to put the Wolves up in front.
Cavaleiro scored his second goal of the season after being included in the starting line-up for the second time this season. Nuno Espírito Santo has used Cavaleiro as a substitute in four of his previous appearances in the league.
Midfielder - Bernardo Silva (Man City)
Portuguese Bernardo Silva won the player of the match in the Manchester Derby after performing a key role in his sides' three goals.
Bernardo Silva‘s low shot from outside the box went wide of the right post past a diving De Gea from Fernandinho‘s cross in the second minute of the game.
After keeping the ball inside the byline from Sterling’s cross, Silva provided a peach of a delivery to the City captain who launched it past De Gea to put the Sky Blues up by one goal.
Silva‘s weighted pass down the left found Aguero whose shot from an acute angle hit the side netting much to United’s relief in the 44th minute.
In the second half, Silva played the ball to Aguero who combined a one-two with Mahrez to find the roof of the net as the fans roared in delight.
When it looked like City was playing the ball around to keep possession, Bernardo‘s pinpoint cross found Ilkay Gündogan free from his marker to slam the ball home from six yards to seal the victory in a move which involved 44 passes.
