Pep Guardiola has described Phil Foden as the most talented player he's ever seen

A recent interview with Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola saw a fascinating quote from the Spanish boss. According to Guardiola, who has of course worked with the likes of Lionel Messi, Andres Iniesta, Arjen Robben and Sergio Aguero, the most talented player he’s ever seen is actually City youngster Phil Foden. That’s some high praise given Foden has only played in a handful of games for City’s first team, but it also suggests that Guardiola is finally ready to give the England u21 star his big break in 2019/20.

Fans have been crying out to see more from Foden for a long time now, but it’s quite clear why Guardiola hasn’t been willing to roll the dice on him just yet; he’s had one of the greatest players in the history of the Premier League in the form of David Silva ahead of him in the pecking order. But Silva is now 33 years old and is about to leave the Etihad at the end of the season – which should mean more opportunities for Foden this time around.

An incredible talent with phenomenal dribbling and passing skills, it’s easy to understand why Guardiola rates the 19-year old so highly. The fact that he’s never been sent out on loan – and has instead stayed at City to learn from Guardiola and players like Silva and Kevin de Bruyne – says a lot, as does the fact that the club haven’t signed any new players in that position this summer. Expect Foden to finally make an impact this season – and a big one at that.
