#5 Mason Greenwood
Despite all the detractors of Manchester United’s new permanent boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer due to their poor finish to 2018/19, it seems that fans have already begun to be hopeful about the future at Old Trafford this summer. Not only is that due to the signing of young, exciting talent like Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka, but it’s also down to the emergence of some blue-chip prospects from United’s academy. The best of the lot? Striker Mason Greenwood.
Greenwood – who emerged into the Red Devils’ first team last season and even appeared in their breathtaking Champions League victory over Paris St. Germain as a substitute – is still just 17 years old, but seemingly everyone involved in the club has high praise for him. Teammate Marcus Rashford recently claimed he had “frightening” talent, while Solskjaer has already suggested he could start in United’s first Premier League game against Chelsea.
The early signs in pre-season have been good, too – he’s started in 3 of United’s games thus far and scored against both Leeds and Inter Milan. With a seemingly natural finishing ability and plenty of speed and confidence, if Greenwood can continue on his current path there’s no reason why he can’t make a big impact on the Premier League – joining Rashford, and other United academy graduates like Jesse Lingard, David Beckham and Paul Scholes in the process.
